Monticello Community Surgery Center’s (MCSC) Board of Managers today announced they have unanimously chosen M. Andy Poole as the center’s new Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Poole is a seasoned healthcare executive with a rich background in successful healthcare administration. As a lifelong Virginian, he also brings an understanding of our local community and its needs. He explained, “As someone who has grown

up in Central Virginia and worked in the local health care market for over 15 years, I bring extensive knowledge of the area, with a history of success in growing the healthcare services needed by our residents.”

Dr. David Nielsen, Chairman of the Center’s Board, spoke of the importance of Poole’s hiring. “I can think of no one better than Andy to lead the Center through the challenges of a rapidly changing and uncertain healthcare marketplace.” Dr. Nielsen noted Poole’s leadership will be key during a time when cost-control is widely discussed but seldom achieved. “As healthcare costs spiral out of control for Virginia families and beyond,” Nielsen said, “the Center has been actively engaged in cutting out bureaucratic and insurance costs to dramatically reduce the price of surgical services. Andy shares our vision of creating a destination center for patients regionally as well as nationally who demand a quality and safe experience for a fair and transparent price.”

Poole says he is most excited about the opportunity that MCSC’s transparent pricing has to dramatically impact the local health care environment. “MCSC is already providing quality service and achieving sky-high patient satisfaction rates. Yet, we believe everyone should have access to great health care and are implementing meaningful reforms to make this happen. Very few healthcare businesses post prices. MCSC already does. Creating a greater awareness of our services and expanding those offerings will allow us to provide the greatest value in surgical services in the local area and beyond.”

Poole previously served as the Director of Rehabilitation Therapies at the University of Virginia. Prior to working at UVa, he was the Director of Therapies at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville. He holds master’s degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University in both Health Administration and Physical Therapy.

About Monticello Community Surgery Center – Entirely owned by local physicians, Monticello Community Surgery Center has been providing high quality surgical care to central Virginia residents for more than a decade. The center is a leading proponent in rational health care reform and is central Virginia’s first surgical facility to offer completely transparent pricing, a model that significantly reduces the cost of surgical services. From its inception, MCSC has delivered care to the entire community, regardless of ability to pay and has donated millions of dollars in surgical services to those with reduced resources.
